A bird in the hand... or rather, in a frame


These are my little birds.




This is where they live, so they can welcome everyone into my home.

I made them out of old thrift store frames spray-painted blue, then rubbed
with minwax, my favorite antiquing method.




This frame cost 2.00.

Try to focus on the ugly frame, not my cute nephew who thought I wanted to take his picture. Why would I take a picture of that awful frame when I could take a picture of him instead?

I cut the birds and wreaths out of vinyl with my Silhouette.


I put them to the glass and then hot glued the glass to the frame in back to make it stay together.

Sadly, the birds are copyrighted images
and I can't cut them out and sell them to you.
But maybe if you make me some cookies, or sweep my kitchen....


Or you can get a Silhouette, Christmas is coming after all. It might have to count as your Christmas, Valentines, Mothers Day, Anniversary and Birthday present though. Trust me you won't regret it.

I haven't. *wink*


There are so many things you can do with cheap frames. You'll probably think of something awesome with this little nudge of inspiration I've given you today.

    I love the dimensional look created by putting the vinyl on the glass instead of the backing...I'll have to keep that in mind!

    I love your idea. This is a beautiful idea for gifts. I will definitely be trying this one. I even thought about etching the glass with the circle frame before I added a silhouette. Awesome inspiration. Hugs, dj1952

      I can explain ;-)
      1. Select your minwax, I use dark walnut usually because thats what I have but I have used other darker colors too.
      2. Get a rag, I usually cut a piece out of an old t-shirt I have in my stash.
      3. Cover your pointer finger with the rag and lightly dip the tip in the minwax.
      4. Smear it on, usually the edges and the creases, wherever you think it should be darker. Wipe off the excess with a dry part of the rag.
      * This will work best on semi gloss or gloss paint. If you flat paint or craft paint it will just absorb. You can just spray it with a gloss clear-coat spray-paint to seal it so you can do this.

      There, I wrote you a novel about something I probably could have explained in one sentence. But I am procrastinating doing the dishes so emails are taking priority right now ;-)
