Pillow Talk

It was my moms birthday last week.

To honor her I made her a pillow.

The "P" is for her name and the rest of the writing is he first letter of mine

and each of my siblings names, along with the year we were born.

I made two, one for my mother-in-law and one for my mom.

I kind of went back and forth between both when I took the pics so sorry for the confusion.

This is how I did it.

1. Get your pillow form, Ikea has the best prices.

2. Measure your pillow and cut your fabric, I only cut it 1/2 inch bigger then the measurement of my       

      fabric because I want the pillow to be really full.

3. Design your wording and then print it out on freezer paper.

      "What is freezer paper?" You ask. You can get a roll next to the aluminum foil at your grocery store.

      Once you try it you will love it. It creates a great stencil. Be sure to print on the dull side of the paper, 

      the shiny side will be facing the fabric. 

3. Cut out your design. I have a cutting machine, so I used that, but you can absolutely cut it out

      with an exacto knife. If you have a cutting machine put the shiny side up on your 

      cutting mat and reverse the design.

4. Iron your design onto the fabric. Press and lift the iron rather then rubbing it so you don't catch

      and tear any little edges. I put a towel under my fabric when I iron.

5 - 8. Paint - Put newspaper underneath your fabric. I just use regular craft paint. I watered down the 

      blue a little so the paint underneath would show through. Dab the paint, do not brush from side to 

      side.

I did not try and do an awesome paint job. I wanted it to look old and spotty. 

That's the thing about old-looking projects, you can cut corners :-)

      Pull off your stencil. I impatiently pull the paper off while the paint is still wet,

but if your worried I see no harm in waiting until it's dry.

      IRON over the paint once it's dry in order to set the color.

If you don't iron the paint, it will fade and get all blotchy if/when you wash it.

Sew the pillow together. Everyone has their own technique for this.

Some pillows I make an envelope back for, others I just sew the two pieces together.

Very simple but I think it looks more finished.

I think my mom may have gotten a little teary when she saw this pillow.

It was not expensive, but the thought and time put into it makes it stand out.

It is a fun and easy project, I'm glad I was able to make it for my mom.

Now I need to get to work on one for me!
