Life Lately - Taken by my iphone with a trip to SeaWorld!

Things are good with the "house of noise" family.

Spring is upon us and that means I'm not in a perpetual state of freezing anymore... most of the time.

School has kept me busy, but as the title of this post alludes to we had some fun at SeaWorld Orlando during spring break.

Here's a recent project for school.
This is hand lettered type that I drew for a project in my typography class.
The finished one turned out great, but I haven't gotten it back yet,
when I do I think I will frame it and hang it in our bedroom.

Reasons why I love boys

This is a bit of a photo journal about my boys.

A lot of these photos are some of my favorites.

My boys were really darling when they were little.
And while I can't call my big boys "darling" anymore they are truly amazing.

So here are some reasons in particular why I love boys.

First of all little boys are just so cute.

I think the cuteness is a survival mechanism
Because when they pour maple syrup all over your kitchen floor and you feel like throwing them out the window you can't, because they are so stinkin cute.

Seriously, how could I ever throw one of them out the window?
I would have to stop and kiss those cheeks first, and then my anger would just be gone.

Last Night

Last night I went out to a baby shower and as soon as I left my little guy Todd (6) walked up to Chad and said "Daaad. Mom is gone, know what that means? P-P-P-Party every day! P-P-P-Party every day! Woohoo! Tonight's gonna be a good night! Tonight's gonna be a good, good night!"

It's nice to know that I am so missed and loved when I'm gone.

A Trip to the Principal's

A few days ago I got a call from the school principal regarding my six year old son.

He had been in a fight during recess.

"Did he win?" You ask, at least thats what my husband asked.
No not really.

He had a disagrement with another boy so this boy pinned my son down and sat on his head.
In order to dislodge this boy from his head my son began to hit and kick.

I can't say I blame him, I would have done the same.

But in all fairness the principal had to notify us of the altercation and Todd's part in it.

He looks so innocent doesn't he?
This is something he wrote a little while ago on our sidewalk to welcome some visiting family.

In case you can't see it it says,
"WEKUM TO OR HAS"

Translation: "Welcome to our house"

Anyway back to the fight.

The next day Todd came home with this note written by this "head sitter" kid.
This was just too cute and funny.
I think we will all forgive our little "head sitter" for now.

Pumpkins and other things

We grew pumpkins in our garden this year.
I do say it was quite successful.

Last year we had a HUGE pumpkin plant, but it only grew one enormous pumpkin.
I thought it would be more wise to plant regular sized pumpkins this year to avoid fighting.
These are the perfect size for carving too.

One big pumpkin vs. nine smaller pumpkins.
We definitely got more out of our watering bill planting the smaller sized pumpkins.
We have nine pumpkins, and two very excited little boys and two sort-of excited bigger boys.
Such is life.

School Time 2012

The kids started school this week.

I had to take my oldest for his 12 year physical at the doctors office last week.
While were waiting there was a woman waiting with her precious, two week old baby boy.
And I couldn't help but think back twelve years ago to when I was taking my darling
first baby in for his newborn check up.

Oh, all the things I wanted to say to this cute new mother who was looking at her baby so adoringly.

Breathe in that newborn smell often. Just drink it in, close your eyes and savor it.

Don't be in a rush for him to crawl, walk or hit any other milestone.

Enjoy each phase while it lasts.

Let him learn by playing, even though he will sometimes fall and get hurt.

Stay close by but don't hover, he needs to learn how to figure it out himself.

Kiss him every day and tell him that you love him especially when you are angry with him.

Watch him sleep.

They grow up so fast.

I didn't say any of this to her, but I wanted to.

I know it's cliche and every mother says this, but that's because we are mourning the loss
of little puckered lips making sucking motions in sleep.
Slobbery open mouthed kisses.
Squishy, slippery little bare bottoms that you just have to pinch after each bath.
And chubby little arms that can wrap around your neck and squeeze just so tight.

Before you know it that sweet tiny baby will be listening to rock music,
stealing your husbands socks and quoting Monty Python.

It happens so incredibly fast.

Tobb was Here

Someone named "Tobb" drew all over our porch steps with magic marker.

It's quite a mystery.

Maybe he is a friend of my son Todd.... Maybe.

To unsolved mysteries!

Thanks,

Good Pickins

We are starting to harvest our garden.

I do not have a green thumb but I can grow some mad zucchini.
There is just no stopping it, even if I check it every day, I still find zucchini the size of footballs.

Our Trip to Yellowstone 2012

Our trip was great.

Everything was perfect, the weather, the scenery, the boys.

Except the pictures are not perfect because I forgot my camera, oops!

So these pictures are all taken with the ipod,  but they turned out pretty good anyway.

Excerpt - Note to Sister

This is an excerpt from a note I sent to my sister, usually we just chat on the phone,
but this time I was sending her something else too and I found myself rambling on.
I really liked what I said, it's kind of like a journal entry and I want to remember it so
here it goes on the ol' blog. Hope you enjoy!

my boys who I love so dearly

The Rainstorm

It rained here this afternoon.

This may not be a big deal for some people, but it is for us.

This has been a really dry year in Utah and the dryness has caused fires and other problems.
Bad fires. Fires that have destroyed homes and thousands of acres.
Fires that have made me cry and pray for rain.

Today's rain-shower was spectacular!

A Wedding in July

This morning I got the boys dressed up all handsome because today was a special day.

It is Independence Day (one of my favorite holidays).

But today is also special because today my dad got married.

Ten Years of July Fourth's

I love the 4th of July.

It is one of my favorite holidays.

For 12 years I have dressed up the kids in red, white and blue.
I bust out my patriotic music and count my blessings.

I love my country very much.

GOD BLESS AMERICA!

Sumer Survival

Having my kids out of school for the summer takes some planning.

Welcome to

Rachael's Summer Survival 101

We will cover 3 topics

Food
Responsibility
Fun

Food
My kids can really eat, so this is an important one.
When they are not in school they tend to graze all day long.... in addition to eating 3 meals a day.

It can get expensive, and it's not healthy.

In order to temper their snacking I have devised a plan.

I bought some snacks, which is exciting for them because
I never buy snack foods.
If I buy a box of cereal (or cookies, chips etc.) it is eaten in a few hours.

Problem #1 it is too expensive to buy snacks when they don't last.
Problem #2 it is unhealthy for the boys to eat that much at a time.

So I have devised a plan.

I divided up the cereal, pretzels, crackers etc.
into appropriate portion size servings and put them into bags.

A Fishy Story

Chad went deep sea fishing in FL with his brother last week.

I don't think they had any fun. (*wink)

This fish is a Tarpon
54 inches over 50 lbs.

It pulled the boat a 1/2 mile and it took Chad 45 minutes to reel it in.

Sadly this is a sporting fish and he didn't get to keep it.
But at least he got a really cool-looking picture.

Ready for summer! I hope.

School is out!
I love the summer months,

My little guy finished kindergarten. That means that next year he will be in school full time.
(Kindergarten is only 2 1/2 hours long here.)
I am happy for him, but I am sad for me.
I will really miss having a little buddy with me all day.

And he really is so fun to hang out with.

Bring your Family to Work Night 2012

A few weeks ago it was
"Bring your family to work" night at my husbands workplace,
which is Delta Airlines.
My hubs is one of the guys that fixes the planes.
The official title is AMT.
Which stands for Aircraft Maintenance Technician.

And he is really good at what he does.
And it was fun to meet some of his coworkers who he tells me about everyday.

I used this as an opportunity to craft of course.
I take any chance I can ;-)
And I made t-shirts for all of us.

(I used my silhouette and cut out some heat transfer to iron on some t-shirts.)

The kids think these shirts are the coolest ever and wear them whenever they are clean.

Walks, Silly Boys and Growing

Sunday afternoon we decided to head up to the canyon and take one of our favorite walks.

We didn't get very far.
